Unique Camping in France: Sainte Croix Animal Park

In 1.5 hour from Strasbourg there is a park with free roaming animals, great dining and tree houses lodging. Unique camping in France.

Saint Croix Parc is a family-friendly place to explore European and global wildlife. It represents over 1,500 animals (130 species) thriving in semi-natural habitat of 120 hectares. Plus, it has a unique camping in France!

Unique Camping in France, our experience

What was in the price of around 800 euro (5 person family):

  • tickets for 2 days in the park
  • dinner and breakfast at the restaurant
  • night at the upscale camping (bedding, etc, included)

We also paid for the train ride around the park, (around 5 euro per ticket, I’d skip it) and 7 euro for a pull wagon (very useful, but we could bring our own from home).

The park is huge. 1 day wouldn’t be enough for us to see everything, so.. We decided to stay overnight at the place of my dream: in a tree house, near red pandas!

1. Watching the animals

Following the feeding schedule at the animal park/zoo is a good idea: animals are more visible!

We first stopped at the lemurs, we were never so close to them:

Th only place we were so close to wild animals was Monkey Mountain in Alsace.

Next were the bears:

The park is popular among locals: even during weekdays, there are were plenty of visitors. Staying overnight gave us a unique opportunity to enjoy it when everyone left, except overnight guests.

There was an excellent buffet with cheeses, desserts, cold cut meats, salads, fruits, etc., and several entree options. We chose fish:

In the morning we had breakfast, at the same dining room, buffet style. Same great quality.

After breakfast we started the day with a barefoot trail, while there wasn’t many people:

4. Barefoot Trail

Barefoot trails are pretty popular in France and Germany. We like it a lot, as it is interesting for everyone in our family.

This one was among the trees (rope trail), and on the ground:

5. Train ride

We were lucky to see many animals presented along train ride trail in USA and Canada, so it wasn’t very interesting for children. As for us, adults.. our French comprehension skills wasn’t good, so we missed a huge part of it, and would skip it to walk around the park instead:

6. Unique camping in France: walk around the park

The park is huge: in two days we hardly saw everything! And that with a help of a pull wagon, otherwise younger kids would be very tired.

We liked the bears a lot, this park reminds us of Alaska’s animal park, with local animals. So we decided to watched another group, they were pretty active:

During our walk on the 2-d day of our stay we discovered many other tree houses, like this ones, for smaller families:

I was glad we decided to stay overnight. It was pricy, but worth to try, at least once

The park contained not only animals, but plenty of other fun stuff for children: playgrounds, water activities, like this one:
