Offenburg, Baden-Württemberg: 8 Interesting Places to Discover

Barefoot trail, nice swimming pool, great museum of Baden-Württemberg history, trail along the river, unique cafe with a playground in front of it, and more..

Offenburg, in Baden-Württemberg state, just a 30 min away from Strasbourg, and offer a lot for families with children. Especially, taking in account that it is a small city of just 60,000 habitants!

In the post below several places we like visiting it in summer and winter:

1. Museum Ritterhaus: discovering captivating history of Offenburg Area

We spent 3 hours at this great museum. Each floor has a different theme, kids can have interactive experiences. Fun and interesting for entire family:

2. Old Town

The old town in Offenburg isn’t big, but it has pleasant Christmas market in winter, plenty of terraces, cafes, restaurants, ice cream places.

3. Alte Weberei Cafe

Unique North Sea themed cafe with an outdoor terrace, great pastries, cakes, and a playground right in front of it:

The playground was just recently built and has a lot of space around:

Plus, several connected parks adjusted right to the playground:

4. 1km trail along the river from City-Parkhaus Wasserstraße to the Bürgerpark

Several small parks and a rose garden connected along 1 km paved trail. It has a lot of greenery, shade in summer and run along the old fortification wall:

At the end of the trail you’ll see Bürgerpark and a huge local swimming pool building:

5. Indoor and outdoor pools “Freizeitbad Stegermatt”

Overall there are 5 or 6 (!) indoor pools and several outdoor. Plus cafe, a play area for kids and a huge lawn in summer, slides, jumping platforms (3 and 5 meters high)…

6. Barefoot Trail Zellweierbach

Good trail to hike barefoot with children, with picnic tables, a washing basin, and a play area. Just don’t go in the rain, like us))). Liked it!

7. Strandbad Gifiz: paid beach and a lake

Gifiz is one of our favorite beaches in the area. It has a slide, floating platform to jump from, hot showers, a kiddie area, and huge sand zone with a playground.

8. Huge playground, play spray area “Wasserspielplatz Gifiz” and free beach

This area has a lot of shade, small unsupervised free beach, and a nice views:

Cherrie picking “Hof Friese” in 20 min from Offenburg

Hof Friese is a family farm that has a cherry orchard for pick your own, cherry liquors, etc.

Staufenberg Castle: trail and dinning, 15 min from Offenburg

The castle is restored fort dating from the 11th century, with a great views of hillside vineyards from a restaurant with a terrace.

If you don’t want to stay in the restaurant, it is possible to grab a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. It is possible to hike to the castle or drive straight to it:
