Visit Alsace in summer or winter, – you’ll find plenty of things to do and places to visit..
Saverne, a small, rich in history, and surrounded by mountains town, we liked for being a “unicorn town”. Kids and us still surprised that this kind of things exist.
Visiting Alsace
1. Traces of unicorn in Saverne
The town’s emblem is a unicorn.
According to legend, a unicorn’s horn was discovered in the ruins of a nearby castle, though it is more likely that a narwhal’s tooth was found and mistakenly identified as a unicorn’s horn.
Anyway, since then it is easy to spot unicorns in Saverne and town proud to have it as an emblem:

2. What else worth to visit in Saverne: Old town center
The old town center has charming half-timbered houses and narrow cobblestone streets, with plenty of cafes nearby:

3. Rohan Castle
The Rohan Castle, also called a “The Little Versailles of Alsace”, is grand neoclassical structure and located at the Saverne town center.
Originally constructed as a residence for the Prince-Bishops of Strasbourg, the castle now houses a museum, a cultural center, elementary school, and various administrative offices:

4. Lunch: Bar Le Commerce
Sport bar “Le Commerce” located right at the old town center, has relaxed atmosphere and plenty of beverages and dishes for a casual meal:

5. Unusual and must be cool to try: licence-free boats to rent
Le Boat offers boat rentals in Saverne, providing an opportunity to explore the picturesque waterways of the Alsace region with a family.
It costs depending on the type of boat, rental duration, and the season and could range from around €100 per day and up to €500:

6. Saverne Rose Garden
Established in 1898, the Saverne Rose Garden features nearly 550 rose varieties. This beautiful garden provides a fragrant experience, small cafe, and costs only several euros per person:

7. Saverne Botanical Garden
Located in the Vosges Mountains, Saverne Botanical Garden has a diverse collection of alpine and medicinal plants. The garden spans over 2.5 hectares and offers a nice setting for nature lovers:

8. Château du Haut-Barr
Château du Haut-Barr is a 12th-century medieval castle, occupies a strategic position between the Lorraine plateau and the Alsace plain. Built on three rocks at an altitude of 470 meters, it often called “The Eye of Alsace”.
One of it’s features is legendary Devil’s Bridge, if you look very closely at the picture below, you can spot it:

9. Grotte Saint-Vit trail
The Saint-Vit Cave is a pleasant area to visit with a family and kids.
A short trail (20 min from parking lot) leads to the flower garden, chapel located in a cave, picnic area, and a view of the Château du Haut-Barr:
