Cool cafe, clue walk for kids, Schnitzels, observation tower, nature trail, amazing water playground, and indoor play space.. Kehl, 30 by tram from Strasbourg

Kehl – isn’t just a borden town, it’s a closest place in Germany to reach from Strasbourg. Many families from France coming to Kehl in summer to visit great water playground, but there are much more to discover:

1. Discover Kehl with clues walks

Family-friendly walk with the clues around Kehl, designed specifically for kids of 4-6 years, 7-9 years and 10+ years old. Distance: 3.5 km, Available in German and French, only at the Kehl tourist information center.

2. St. Johannes Nepomuk catholic church

Our favorite church is Strasbourg Cathedral, but there are always plenty of tourists. St. Johannes Nepomuk is a nice quite place to stop for a moment. We liked its tranquility and the small rose garden nearby:

3. Alte Zunft Kehl Schnitzels

Alte Zunft is an small, old German tavern with a lovely atmosphere. Good place to eat German food, especially Schnitzels. Water playground Rhein is just 10 minutes walk from the tavern:

4. Water Playground Rhein

Water Playground Rhein is starting at the lake that connected by water play structures to the Rhein river. This place is popular among germans and us, strasbourgeois.

Pictured below: the narrow, long lake that connects to the Rhine river. We like to walk it in spring-fall:

There are 2 bridges across the lake. At the one, closer to the Rhine, live group of turtles, several species, including the ones from USA:

1st time we spotted them , we counted nearly 40(!) animals

Pictured below: things to do in summer at the lake. Artem isn’t interested in a water playground anymore, but enjoy jumping from the bridge, as other local teens:

Water Playground Rhein has several playgrounds, the area is spacious and great for families:

6. Eiscafé Pierod

Excellent wide choice ice creams. Nice, big outside terrace in the pedestrian street, clean and comfortable indoor sitting. Cash payment only.

7. Sensapolis, play and climbing place

Pros: open all year round, adults can climb too, huge play area – 1,600 m². Separate area for crawling babies, “canopy trail”, birthday parties. Really fun place, can easily spend there half a day!

Cons: pricy, especially if you are coming as a big family, plus adults must pay for themselves too.

8. Trail Auen-Wildnispfad

Auen-Wildnispfad trail isn’t directly in Kehl, but was suggested by official Kehl website! 🙂

Very interesting nature trail with a boardwalks, bridges, trunks and branches to go over and under… It could get seasonal flood and be muddy after the rains, so be careful.

Huge shopping center right near the parking lot with ice cream and dining. We visited in Auen-Wildnispfad October and like it:

9. Playground Spielplatz am Ziegelhof

Small, but spacious playground located near the fields with water pump, zip line, compact football field, and climbing structures:

10. Das LoLo

Das Lolo is a Kehl hidden gem! This is a place with a tasty food, nice playground, kids corner, and huge lawn. You can sit in the cozy cafe, spacious restaurant, or at the terrace facing the playground:

11. Cala Spa Sauna & Wellness

Cala Spa is adults only, brand-new facility facing the forest, with saunas, and outdoor area for rest and recharge:
