The Rohan Palace hosts 3 museums: the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the Archaeological Museum. Explore Strasbourg and take a look at where the king’s family and Napoleon Bonaparte used to stay, right in the heart of Strasbourg, next to the Cathedral.

1. A bit of history about Rohan Palace
Constructed between 1732 and 1742, this masterpiece was designed for Prince-Bishop Rohan. (A prince-bishop is a type of monarch who reigns over a principality, they were very common in medieval Europe.)
2. Rohan Palace: visiting the Museum of Decorative Arts
Among 3 museums at the Palace Rohan, the Museum of Decorative Arts is where you can check the chambers of the Royal family and Napoleon.
Pictured below: the Sun King’s bedroom, the most impressive part of the palace, which housed the king or members of his family on their visits to Strasbourg. Louis XV slept in it during his stay in October 1744 and the Dauphine, Marie Antoinette, stayed here a few years later:
Napoleon’s Bedchamber is rather interesting, as the space where the bed is built, originally served as a closet! Napoleon liked the informal style of the room and ordered his cabinetmaker, to make chairs, a sofa, a table, and a bed, all still in place today:

3. Continue your visit with the Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeological Museum
Located at the Palais Rohan’s extensive basement is one of the biggest and most interesting archaeological collections in France. Strasbourg’s Archaeology Museum hosted here since 1896.
