The Schwarzwald is a stunning wooded mountain range and one of the most cherished natural destinations for Germans. No wonder, as you can literally point to any spot on the map and there will be something cool to discover! In the post below just some of our favorite places worth to visit in Black Forest:
Worth to Visit in Black Forest
1. Baumwipfelpfad: treetop trail, tower, slide, etc
Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald offers a unique experience – gentle walk with a breathtaking views from elevated pathways and 40-meter-high observation tower:
To go down by slide, take some cash to pay at the top of the tower
Extra: playground at the end of the wooden path, small cafe, gift store and picnic tables:
2. Allerheiligen Monastery and waterfalls trail
Allerheiligen waterfalls is a scenic trail with plenty of steps that leads to a series of picturesque cascading waterfalls. Ruins of the Allerheiligen Monastery is right nearby:

3. Gertelbach Waterfall trail
The Gertelbach Waterfalls are a hidden gem in the Black Forest, surrounded by lush, moss-covered rocks and dense forest. Our kids like running through the wooden bridges, there are plenty of them:
Extra: there are schnaps stand on the trail (take some cash for trying it) and a good restaurant not far from the trail: Black Forest Girl
4. Lotenbach Waterfall trail
One more picturesque waterfall trail, charming and relatively easy hike through lush, moss-covered forest. During summer you can stop and have a dip at the small pools, very popular with kids:
Extra: Gaststätte Eiscafé Salvatore is a popular place near waterfalls to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine, coffee, and homemade gelato:
5. Lotharpfad trail
One of the main thing of Lotharpfad 1 km easy trail is that it resemble Alaska a lot!
Elevated wooden boardwalk takes you through the forest with low bushes, winding along birches, and occasional wild boars (if you’ll be lucky, just don’t feed them):
Next four places below – waterfall, suspension bridge, beer garden with playground, summer toboggan, and barefoot trail located in/near town of Todtnau:
6. Todtnau Waterfall trail
Todtnau Waterfall (on the video below) is one of the highest natural waterfalls in Germany, cascading down 97 meters in the heart of the Black Forest:

7. Suspension bridge “Blackforestline Hängebrücke”
A striking suspension bridge, Blackforestline Hängebrücke offer a thrilling walk 450 meters across a deep valley. At 120 meters above the ground, it provides cool panoramic views:
8. Alpine coaster “Hasenhorn Rodelbahn Todtnau”
Summer toboggan or “Alpine coaster” in Todtnau is one of the longest and most exciting toboggan runs in Germany, stretching over 2.9 kilometers.
This fun-packed ride twists and turns through the beautiful Black Forest landscape, reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.
To ride kids must be at least 3 years old and minimum 95 cm tall. From the age of 8 and a height of 1,40m they are allowed to drive alone:
9. Barefoot trail “Barfusspfad Muggenbrunn”
The Barfusspfad Muggenbrunn is a unique, fun, easy barefoot trail in the Black Forest, offering visitors to walk over various natural surfaces like grass, mud, stones, and water:
10. Schluchsee, the largest lake in the Black Forest
The Schluchsee, once a glacier lake is popular with swimmers but also offers boat tours MS Schluchsee, which takes about an hour.
In summer you can also try local swimming pool, adjusted to the lake:

11. Baden-Baden Altstadt (Old Town)
Just a few meters above the hustle and bustle of the pedestrian zone and spa district, there is spacious tranquility in Baden-Baden’s historic old town:
The Old Town of Baden-Baden is a charming and historic area filled with narrow, cobblestone streets, elegant architecture, and picturesque squares.
It is easy to find a place to eat and every time you come back there are streets and corners you have never seen before.

Plus, the Caracalla Spa has thermal pools that are perfect for families, while the Lichtentaler Allee offers beautiful parks and playgrounds for outdoor fun, plus ride roller skates.

12. Merkur Mountain Funicular Railway
Germany’s longest funicular railway is a major attraction in Baden-Baden and a favorite spot for excursions.
Climbing Baden-Baden’s highest point is challenging, but funicular will reach the height in five minutes!
Extra: there are nice cafe, observation tower, and a playground at the top of the mountain. At the bottom of the funicular there is also animal park “Wegweiser Schwarzwild Gehege”.
13. Historic water feature in Baden-Baden: Wasserkunstanlage Paradies
Built in the early 20th century, Wasserkunstanlage features a series of cascading fountains and waterfalls set within lush terraced gardens.
Located on the slopes of the historic charming villas and overlooking Black Forest, it’s a great place to walk (plus, there is a playground!):
14. Hidden gem: small town of Gengenbach
Gengenbach, a charming town in Germany’s Black Forest, deserve a separate post about it! It has only 11,000 of habitants but has plenty of interesting things.
What we like the most is that everything is nearby: you can park your car and explore everything on foot in half a day.
Must see: cozy Old Town with its well-preserved half-timbered houses, Gengenbach Town Hall during Christmas (famous for its Advent Calendar display), Niggelturm Museum and winter Carnival, and gentle hikes through the surrounding vineyards:
15. Alternative Wolf and Bear Park Black Forest
The Alternative Wolf and Bear Park Black Forest is a wildlife sanctuary located in the heart of the Black Forest, dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of wolves and bears.
Unlike traditional zoos, this park focuses on providing a natural environment for its animals, allowing visitors to observe them in spacious, forested enclosures that mimic their natural habitats:
16. Swimming pool Freibad Oppenau
Summer, outdoor swimming pools in the Black Forest is something exceptional – they have great facilities for families, cafes, huge green areas, and views – over the forest or vineyards.

17. Worth to visit in Black Forest: Lake-swimming pool “Naturbad Mitteltal”
Naturbad Mitteltal is one of few unique natural swimming facilities located in the Black Forest.
This eco-friendly pool combines a natural lake with modern amenities, featuring crystal-clear, chemically untreated water that is filtered through aquatic plants.
It offers a picturesque setting with a huge sandy and grassy areas, scenic views of Black Forest, cafe, jumping tower, and kiddies pools:
